Obituary For Mr. Nelson Robinson

Funeral services for Mr. Nelson Robinson, 86, of Cordova, SC, will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Emmanuel AME Church, 1879 Hudson Road, Cope. Interment will be held 1:00pm, Friday, October 11, 2024, at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia.

Mr. Robinson passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

Public viewing will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 2:00pm - 6:00pm.

Mr. Nelson “Ray” “Sugar Boy” Robinson was born to the late Glenn Robinson Sr. and Ozzie Bell Wolfe Robinson of July 8, 1936, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He entered into eternal rest at his home in Cordova, South Carolina on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.

Nelson received his formal education in the public schools of Orangeburg County and was a 1953 graduate of Wilkinson High School.

Nelson proudly served in the United States Army. After being honorably discharged from the army, Nelson returned home and was employed by Utica tool, where he served as a foreman for over 30 years until the company went out of business in 1994.

Nelson was a faithful member of Emmanuel AME Church, where he was the father of the church. He was also a class leader, steward, trustee and a member of the male chorus.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara Ann Roper Robinson; son, Master Sergeant Lamar Robinson; grandson, Demario Roper; his parents; maternal grandparents, Marion and Alli Wolfe; paternal grandparents, William and Anna Robinson; sister, Diane Robinson-Williams; and four brothers: Cline Robinson, Thomas Robinson, Glenn Robinson Jr. and Ulysses Robinson.

Nelson leaves to cherish fond memories, three daughters: Cynthia G. Roper (Michael) Madison of Spotsylvania, VA, DeBarbara R. Robinson of Columbia, SC and Jennifer F. Robinson (James) Wilson of Orangeburg, SC; one son, Lamonte Robinson of Orangeburg, SC; brother, Herbert Lee (Peety Boy) Robinson; two sisters-in-law: Norma Robinson (Glenn Robinson Jr.) and Dorothy Dunning (Ulysses Robinson); grandchildren: Jarrett Wilson, Jair Wilson, Zion Robinson, Dion Robinson, Elijah Robinson and Jenesis Wilson; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and dear friends.
