Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST on Monday, October 7, 2024 at St. Mark CME Church located at 1281 Lee Rd 249 in Smiths,AL 36877 with Rev. James Smith, officiating. Burial in Motts Church of Christ Cemetery. Public viewing is 1:00-5:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
Mrs. Ella Frances Cook, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 110 on September 30, 2024, at her home in Smiths Station, AL, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on September 22, 1914, in Buena Vista, GA to the late Mr. Henry and Mrs. Annie Mae Goodwill, Ella lived a life filled with faith, family, and service.
Mrs. Ella Cook accepted Christ at an early age and, after her marriage, joined St. Mark Church in Smiths Station, AL. She remained an active and devoted member, serving faithfully on the Steward and Missionary Board for many years. Her faith and dedication to her church family were cornerstones of her life.
Known for her vibrant spirit, remarkable storytelling, and unwavering optimism, Ella brought joy to those around her. She found great pleasure in gardening, crafting, and spending time with her family. Family gatherings were filled with her wisdom and laughter, as she shared both her experiences and the joy of living with those she loved. Her warm, motherly nature extended beyond her immediate family, and many in the community looked up to her as a mother figure, seeking her guidance and support.
In addition to her roles as homemaker and family matriarch, Mrs. Cook worked as a dedicated cook, Certified Nursing Assistant for over 70 years, and a foster grandparent, offering care and love to children in need.
Her compassion and commitment to nurturing others touched many lives throughout her long and fruitful career.
Mrs. Ella was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dorridge Cook, and her children, Cathryn Cook, Hattie Cook, Benny Cook,Sr., Annie Mae Frazier, Patricia Wyatt, and Lula Mae Chester, as well as five of her siblings. Though she has now joined them in eternal rest, her legacy of love, strength, and faith will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
Mrs. Cook leaves to cherish her memory her children: Lacornia Cook of Chicago, IL; Samuel Wesley Cook of Smiths Station, AL, Alberta Ann Cook of Smiths Station, AL and Josephine (Oscar) Willis of Smiths Station, AL. She is also survived by a special niece, Henry Ann Jordan of Tampa, FL, along with a host of grandchildren, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were blessed by her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering devotion.
Mrs. Ella Frances Cook was a woman of grace, strength, and love. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her vibrant spirit and legacy of compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. She has now found her eternal rest in the arms of the Lord, whom she served faithfully for so many years.
