Brenda Warren, 51, passed on Friday, September 27, 2024 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at St. John AME Church, Ft. Mitchell, AL with Rev. Samuel Smith, pastor, officiating, Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing is 3:00-5:00 p.m. EST on Monday, October 7, 2024.
Brenda Lee Warren was born January 13, 1973, to the late Washington Warren Jr and Rosie Lee Warren in Washington DC. She departed this earthly life to live eternal on Friday, September 27, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus GA.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member to St. John AME Church where she served as a member on The Willing Workers Committee, Stewardess Board, and the Auxiliary Board.
Brenda was a proud member and graduate of Russell County High School, Class of 1992, where she was a leading LadyWarriors Basketball Player.
She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Health & Recreation from Voorhees College, graduating Cum Laude. While attending college, she pledged Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority and played basketball. She later furthered her education at Troy University Ft. Benning, where she obtained a Master's Degree in Sports & Fitness Management in 2007.
She was the Head Coach of the CVCC Women's Basketball Team, where she led them to three Alabama Community College Conference tournament appearances and had three players sign NCAA Division II scholarships. From 2006-2008, her team achieved a 100 percent graduation rate.
Brenda was the head coach for track and field as well as the junior varsity and assistant varsity basketball coach at Russell County High School in Seale, Alabama.
Brenda's career highlights include serving as an assistant women's basketball coach at Savannah State University under Head Coach Cedric Baker and working as a Professor of Health Education from 2013 to 2017.
She returned home to Fort Mitchell, AL and became girls' assistant coach under head coach Mary Calvin at Russell County High.
Brenda was a former member of Princess Chapter #194 Order of the Eastern Stars Modern Free.
Brenda loved working with kids both as a teacher and basketball coach, she cherished her time with her nieces, nephews, and cousins. Whether in the classroom, on the court, or with family, she enjoyed and loved her family. Brenda was a true ALABAMA ROLLTIDE fan....Roll Tide Roll!!!!
She is survived by her mother, Rosie Warren Ft. Mitchell AL, brother, Richard Warren Seattle WA, sisters Laverne (Lonnie) Bennett Phenix City AL, Jenist (Kenneth) Robertson, Ft. Mitchell AL, and Stephanie (Lanorris) Smith, Columbus Ga; two aunts, Betty Holloway, Phenix City AL and Ruby Warren, NC; two uncles, George Warren, Syracuse NY and Wilbert Warren Sr., Richmond VA. God-sister Linda (Douglas) Nickerson, Phenix City,Al. Nieces and nephews; Domonique, Tyrell (Secquoia), Makayla, Lanorris, Bruce, Tevon, Janyah, Stephen, Sa'Nai, Jason, Noah, Bryson, Eljay, Makenzie, Skylar. And a host of cousins and friends.
