To Leigh, the Finnie and Hairston Families, and extended Relatives: On Christmas morning 2023, Shirley surprised me with a telephone call to wish me a very Merry Christmas. We talked briefly and she told me she had others to call and wish a Merry Christmas. After we hung up, a strange feeling of nervousness came over me. I couldn't recall Shirley calling me in quite a number of years to wish me a Merry Christmas. I thought to myself, "I hope this won't be the last time Shirley and I wish each other a Merry Christmas." I think, perhaps, she felt it would be her last time, and that is why she called me. I feel a great loss and sadness now that she has left because she was like a cousin and friend to me. She, Jean, her other siblings, and we (Phyllis and I) visited and played together when we were children when her family lived up the road from our family. We attended the same churches. I continue to think about the last time I saw her, and those thoughts add to my tears and my joy. I always looked forward to seeing her at church, and I loved making her laugh at my silliness. I am so glad that in the last two months I told her that I loved her, and she told me that she loved me, too. We parted in peace and love and that makes me joyful. I will truly miss her. Deepest Love and Sympathy to all of you. Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Shirley. Angie Broome Welch
