Obituary For Christine Clara Lee Harris Mathews

MRS. CHRISTINE CLARA LEE HARRIS MATHEWS - Age 88, of Dalton, Georgia passed away Saturday, September 7, 2024 surrounded by her family. Mrs. Christine Harris Mathews arrived on Christmas Day, December 25, to the late parents Mrs. Ellena Harris Gates and Mr. Jessie Harris in 1935. Christine was the oldest daughter of nine children.

Christine moved to Dalton, GA in 1956, seeking employment. She was employed by Mr. & Mrs. G .L. Westscott for 42 years. She served the Westscott’s extended family during her employment. She was last by Jack Rowland and Frances Alfred. She was a faithful member of Mountain Ridge Baptist Church.

She was preceded by her late husband of 26 years , James H. Mathews, son, James E. Mathews, sisters, Geraldine Harris and Patricia Lake, and brothers, Jessie Harris, Sammy Harris, Walter Lake, and Arthur Lake, grandparents, Mrs. Ola Mae Woodard, grandchildren, Bruce Mathews, Elizabeth Mathews, and Kristian Mathews.

She is survived by her family; sisters, Juanita Parks, (Greenville, GA.) and Bonnie McClendon (New Hampshire, DL). She was a devoted mother of two children, Mrs. Gloria (W. James) Brown, Columbus, GA, and Teresa (James E.) Copeland, Dalton, GA; daughter-in-law, Gwen Mathews; grandchildren, Victor Brown, Natalie (Marcus) Smith, Columbus, GA, Dr. Folayana Williams, PhD. Columbus, GA, James Mathews, (VT), Sarah Matthew, (Pinehurst, GA,) Antonio Bonapart, and Mathews Bonapart (Dalton, GA); great grandchildren, Alyissa Bonapart, Stefan and Ava Bonapart, Christian Gentry, Anayla Williams, Jordan Brown, Makayla Brown, Chole Johnson, Christopher Smith, Jayda, Jamison, Jaycelyn, James E. Lee Jr, and Niaya Mathews, Anissa Daniels, and Karmara Duval; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends; surrogate daughters, are Deborah Macon, Susie Brown, Patricia Hall, and Barbara Phillips; surrogate sons, David Macon and Min. Ben Phillips. Special thanks to Ms. Vanessa Harris, Ms. Brenda Hayes, Ms. Robin Stephens, Ms. Loretta Short, and Ms. Brenda Patterson, Amedsyis Hospice Nurses & Staff, Hamilton Diabetes & Endocrinology Center, and Cornerstone Medical Group.

Homegoing Celebration will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 1:00 P. M. at Mtn. Ridge Baptist Church, 1401 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, Dalton, GA 30721, with Pastor Rev. Dr. Jerry D. Jones, Eulogist and other ministers officiating. Her remains will lie in state on Friday, September 13, 2024 from 11:00 A. M. – 7:00 P. M. at Willis Funeral Home. Interment; West Hill Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Willis Funeral Home Inc., Dalton, GA.

Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus and to take Him at His Word Ms Christine truly trusted in Jesus I met her at Mt Ridge shortly after my arrival in Dalton in 1977 She had an infectious laugh but a no nonsense attitude We became friends and I would visit with her each time I came to Dalton She's my friend even death can't change that Precious memories will always remain with me She was a hard worker and has now paid her burdens down She is done with the trouble of this world and is at peace Sleep on take your rest we love you but GOD loves you best Not good bye see you further on up the road I thought of you recently and didn't need my heart's yearning I love you my friend I hope I showed you not just told you My heart aches but I'll see you again Your forever friend Marvin L Henderson Ravenna OH
