Shelia Vanessa Barksdale, 64, of Stoney Mountain Road, Martinsville, VA departed from this life on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, in Martinsville, Virginia. She was born September 29, 1959, in Martinsville, Virginia to the late John Barksdale and Dorothy Eggleston.

Shelia graduated from Laurel Park High School class of 1977. She was a member of Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Axton, VA. She worked for Martinsville City Schools and Kings Grant Retirement Community in dining services for 20 years.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include one daughter, Keshia (Syreeta) Barksdale of Greensboro, NC; one brother, Jarvis Barksdale of Ridgeway, VA; five grandchildren, Alani Barksdale, Jax Barksdale, Adrianna Hairston-Law, Anyla Bowman, and Iri'nicole Bowman all of Greensboro, NC; one niece, Valeria (Montae) Davis of Axton, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. until the time of her service at 12 noon. The service will be held at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA.

A public viewing will be held, on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The family will receive friends Friday, September 6, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday, September 7 and Sunday, September 8, from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the residence, 2151 Stoney Mountain Road, Martinsville, VA 24112.
