Obituary For Florence Martin

Florence Catherine Clayton was born on December 7, 1924, in Conway, Mississippi to Sia and Beulah Clayton. She was the third oldest of seven children born to this union. Her siblings, Lawrence (her twin brother), Wesley, Jesse, Birdestine, Levern and Betty were all raised in the Conway community. Years later, after her father's untimely death, her mother, Beaulah married Alonzo Mallett and to this union two children, Annie C. and Douglas, were added. She was also blessed with a special stepsister, Mary C. Thomas.

Florence accepted Christ at an early age and read the bible daily. She received her education at Galilee School and attended Galilee Baptist Church until her health began to decline. At the tender age of 16, Florence married Luther Martin and to this union five children were born, Lucille, Ruthie Jean, Jesse Mary Alice and Luther Jr… Years later, upon leaving Mississippi, she met and married Charlie Robinson and to this union 10 children were born, Shirley, Charlie Mae, George, Billy, Ernest Lee, Jerry, Terry, Johnny, Sheila and Betty.

Settling in Stockton, CA Florence was a homemaker who loved to cook, sew, bake, quilt and crochet. She had a passion for people and enjoyed feeding and helping others. She felt that cleanliness was next to Godliness, and it showed in her home and in her children. Her hobbies also included working in her puzzle books, gardening, and watching game shows, but her favorite show was Martin. Florence loved everyone she encountered. She loved unconditionally like a river flowing to no end. As a wife, mother and grandmother, Florence was loved, admired and respected. She was the epitome of a Proverbs 31:28 Woman, “her children arise and call her blessed.” In the early morning, on Saturday, August 24, 2024, God called His angel home. A beautiful rose plucked just four months shy of her 100th birthday. Surrounded by her children and grandchildren, her work on earth was complete. Florence heard God whisper, well done, thy good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:23).

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Sia and Beulah Clayton; stepfather, Alonzo Mallett, husbands Luther Martin and Charlie Robinson; six siblings, Lawrence (her twin brother), Wesley, Jesse, Birdestine, Levern and Betty; her three daughters, Lucille, Mary Alice and Shirley, six sons, Luther Jr. Jesse, George, Jerry, Terry and Johnny; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Florence Catherine Clayton Martin leaves to cherish her memories her children, Ruthie Jean Pickett of Milwaukee, WI, Charlie Mae Smith of Stockton, CA, Billy (Rosie) Robinson of Kosciusko, MS, Ernest Lee Robinson of Blythe, CA, Sheila Robinson of Kosciusko, MS and Betty (Willie) Allen of Kosciusko, MS. She leaves a legacy which included 15 children, 53 grandchildren, 157 great grandchildren, 138 great-great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
