Dorothy Rochelle Wingfield was born to Annie Mae Reese and Raymond Williams on December 5, 1948, in Montgomery, Alabama. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by Rev. H.H. Davis at Morning Pilgrim Baptist Church. She graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1966. On January 22, 1968, she married the love of her life George R. Wingfield, Sr. and their union was blessed by two sons, Dwayne and Russ.

Faith, friends, family, and fun defined Dorothy’s life. Her faith guided her work at Second Calvary Missionary Baptist church in Cleveland, Ohio. There, she served as a deaconess and worked with the children’s program, Bridge the Gap. Upon returning to Montgomery, she was also a deaconess with Holt Street Memorial Baptist Church. Dorothy loved her friends and their many adventures. From shopping trips with Geraldine Knox to a long bus trip to New York City with Elvesta White, Dorothy loved to be surrounded by others. Her loyal friend Dee Benson remained a constant in her life regardless of the miles they were separated. Family was paramount for Dorothy. She always doted on her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives. That love of family was reflected in her work with children. She worked as a teacher’s aide in Japan at the Atsugi Naval Air Facility and as a handicap teacher’s aide at Brunswick Middle School in Brunswick, Ohio. Finally, no one had a good time like Dorothy. She loved to travel around the world and really enjoyed a good Western movie.

Dorothy leaves behind a devoted husband, George R. Wingfield, Sr. to whom she was married for 56 years. She is also survived by her two sons Dwayne L. Wingfield and George “Russ” Wingfield, Jr. (Cheron). Additionally, she is mourned by her sister Jacqueline McCall and sisters and brothers-in-law Carolyn Wingfield-Gay, Ronnie (Elnora) Arrington, and Patrick (Tyeise) Arrington. She will be missed by her devoted cousin Gloria Callens and her nieces and nephews, Sondra Reese, Kevin Bryant (Melissa), Kendrick Bryant, Tasha Arrington, Patrick Arrington, Jr., Alex Arrington, Tameria Arrington, Roderick Arrington, and Robert A. McCall. She is cherished by her grandchildren Jasmine Webb, Brittany Smith, Kandice Thompson, Kearia Williams, LeDarius Wingfield, Kendarius Belser, Myles Wingfield, Jessiqua Wingfield, George “Trey” Wingfield III, and Dwayne “D.J.” Wingfield. Finally, she leaves fond memories for her forever blessed great-grandchildren Taylor Wilson, Dylan Campbell, Ryan Campbell, Nia Rogers, Oaklynn Smith, August Wingfield, Dallas Campbell, Akil Rogers, and Auriella Wingfield.
