Obituary For Mary Ann "Dot" Pettigrew

( December 16, 1936 — August 23, 2024 )

FLINT--The celebration of life for Mary Pettigrew, 87, is scheduled for 12 p.m. Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Whitehouse COGIC with Elder Waymon Stewart as eulogist. Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery under direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Co. Public viewing will be on Friday 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary “Dorothy” Ann Pettigrew was born on December 16, 1936 in Smith County, Texas to
parents John and Mary Pettigrew, where she remained a lifelong resident. She transitioned to
the arms of her loving Father on August, 23, 2024.

She attended Stanton High School, an all-Black school and later raised her family in Whitehouse, Texas. Dorothy dedicated much of her career as a housekeeper at Tyson House, retiring after 22 years of faithful service.

Known affectionately by many names-Mama, Dot, Dot Ann, Dine, and Granny Dot-Dorothy
spent her retirement helping care for her beloved grandchildren and serving her church
community. Dorothy surrendered her life to the Lord at an early age, and one of her greatest
joys in the world was to share with her family and friends about Jesus. She was a devoted
lifelong member of Whitehouse Church of God in Christ, where she served faithfully in the
church choir and supported various church activities with her generous spirit.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, one son, eight brothers, three sisters, one
granddaughter and her cherished dog, Buggz. She leaves behind a loving legacy, survived by her
children: Bobby Pettigrew of Flint, TX; Gloria Pettigrew of Flint, TX; Glenda Stewart (James) of
Whitehouse, TX; Dewane Pettigrew (Lana) of Tyler, TX; Dwight Pettigrew (Helen) of Tyler, TX;
Teresa Prentice (Carl) of Bullard, TX; and Yvonne Rena Pettigrew of Flint, TX, as well as her bonus
loved ones Helen Ervin and Donna Ford, both of Tyler, TX. Dorothy is also survived by her
siblings Carolyn Williams (Ronnie), Vera Howard (Rodney), Barbara Bowie (Luther) and Janice
Banks (Robert), all of Tyler, TX. Her legacy extends through 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren, alongside a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom she cherished deeply.

Dorothy’s life was a testament to her faith, her family, love for her church, and the countless
lives she touched. She will be greatly missed but her memory will live on in the hearts of those
who knew and loved her.
