James “Jim” David El-Rachiem Jones, 79, of White Plains, Maryland, died in Ashburn, Virginia of a gastrointestinal infection on August 14, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Rock Creek Episcopal Parish, Church Road and Webster Street,NW Washington, DC, 20011

Visitation: 10 a.m.

Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m.

James D.E. Jones was a great "Big Brother" to me and many others in our Howard University fraternity during our college years. Those of us who pledged after him knew him as "Big Brother Jimmy Jones". My sincere sympathy to his family and others who shared his life from then until now.

Jim, or "Doctor Jones" as I sometimes called him, was a dear friend and colleague. He had a sharp mind and memory for great detail that I envied. We last met over lunch at Busboys & Poets, several years ago, and would exchange messages and greetings each year, especially since I moved from the DC area. I am lucky to have known him and Shirley. My condolences to her and family.
