Obituary For Richard Byrd

The funeral services for the late Mr. Richard Byrd, who departed this life on Monday, August 19, 2024, will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Friendship Baptist Church in Ashburn, Georgia. The Pastor, Reverend Dr. Marvin Cuffie, will deliver the Eulogy. Burial will follow in the Westview Memorial Cemetery in Ashburn, Georgia. Mr. Richard Byrd was born on the 11th of January in 1952 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Dewey, Sr. and Mammie Lee Holmes Byrd.

Richard was educated in the Turner County Public School System and attended Eureka High School.

Richard gave his life to Christ and was a devoted member of Friendship Baptist Church in Ashburn, Georgia, for many years until his health began to decline. He enjoyed singing in the choir.

Richard made a living and lived the duration of his life in Ashburn, Georgia, where he made his home. He was employed for many years at various mobile home manufacturing plants. He also worked many years as a farmer.

Richard’s favorite all-time hobby was fishing, which he did up until the very end of his life. One of his favorite hobbies was rolling pecans, which he enjoyed doing with his siblings.

Richard was united in Holy Matrimony to Katrana Moore Byrd on November 24, 1972. They weathered many storms together and yet remained solid.

Our Loved One was called from Labor to Reward on Monday, August 19, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family and friends. His parents, and his brothers, Dewey Byrd, Jr., Major Byrd, Willie Charles Byrd, and James Taylor, have all preceded him in death.

Richard leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Katrana Moore Byrd; two sons, Laddarious Byrd, Sr., Willie Moore; four grandchildren, Lariah Byrd, Laddarious Byrd, Jr., Corey Moore, Chinaza Moore; his sisters and brothers, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Louise Collier, Evelyn (Sam) Edmonson, Eloise Byrd, John Summers, Tina Taylor, Larry (Linda) Loper, Gwendolyn Holloman, Xavier (Tabitha) Powell, Selena Byrd, Nathaniel Holloman, Kelvin (Shimona) Holloman, Deotha Dunson, Sherry (Keith) Harris, Lefloyd (Stephanie) Odom, Sharon Summers, Daisy Byrd, Louise Byrd, Diane Taylor; an uncle, Mr. Preston Holmes of Ashburn, Georgia; an aunt, Mrs. Carrie Spears of Atlanta, Georgia; a special friend, Exonia Wilks; a host of nieces, nephews and friends that will truly miss him.

He touched many lives during his journey of life and he will never be forgotten.
