Obituary For Leon Watson {Leaky} Moore

Leon “Leaky” Watson Moore, 77 of Madison, NC passed Friday, August 9, 2024. Public viewing will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m at Perry Spencer Funeral, Madison, N. C. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Rock Hill Baptist Church, 4873 Pine Hall Rd., Walnut Cove, NC with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Leon Watson “Leaky” Moore, age 77, passed away peacefully in the early morning of August 9, 2024, after a lengthy illness. Born on April 29, 1947, to the late John W. and Bernice O. Moore.

Leon was lifelong resident of Rockingham County where he attended the local public schools and graduated from Charles Drew High School in 1966.

On January 30, 1976, he married Laura McClinton and to this union they had two children: Anissa Moore and Deon Moore.

Later in life, on July 16, 1999, Leon married Mary Cooper and they enjoyed 25 years of marriage.

Leon’s spiritual journey began at Goodwill Baptist Church at an early age, but he later rededicated his life to the Lord Jesus Christ at Rock Hill Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher Board until his health declined.

Leon had a passion for gardening and took pride in growing a beautiful and flourishing garden that he loved sharing with others. He also enjoyed yardwork and cherished spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew Moore and sisters, Drema Benton and Catherine Baker.

He is survived by his wife: Mary Cooper Moore, of the home; his children; Anissa Moore of Brown Summit, NC and Deon Moore (April) of Madison, NC, his stepdaughter; Marsherrie Marshall of Walkertown, NC. His brothers; John W. Moore, Jr. of Madison, NC and Clifton J. Moore (Linda) of Eden, NC; his sisters-in-law; Edith Moore of Eden, NC and Felicia Cooper of Walkertown, NC, brothers-in-law; Otis Cooper, Jr. (Marilyn) of Durham, NC, Harold Cooper (Adale) of Walkertown, NC and Derick Cooper (Sandra) of Walnut Cove, NC. Leon is also survived by his beloved grandchildren; Karlos Moore, Dre Moore, Ashanti Moore, Kevon Moore, Jayon Moore and Ke’Asia Moore, Mecha Scales and Dontae’ Scales along with five great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Leon was a fixture at my grandmother's house in Goodwill. He made you laugh and always had a good attitude. Leon was a good person with a good heart and he will be missed. I'm only sorry that I didn't get out to see him before he passed. Rest in Peace Leon.
