On Sunday, August 4, 2024, Melanie D. Carter, 66, of Rainbow Drive, Greensboro, NC transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at Hospice Home of The Piedmont, High Point, NC. She was born July 13, 1958, in Welch, WVA to the late Jesse Carter and Myrtle Richardson Carter.

In addition to her parents, Melanie was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty l. Campbell, Karen E. Miller and Cynthia Carter.

Melanie was a member of Collins Grove United Methodist Church, Greensboro, NC. She was a graduate off Martinsville High School class of 1976. Melanie was employed as a business officer at the University of North Carolina Greensboro until her retirement.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include: two sons, Raleigh Nickerson and Ryan Nickerson both of Greensboro, NC; four sisters, Regina J. Carter of Boston, MA, Pamela D. Carter of Greensboro, NC, Doris (Joseph) Reynolds of Martinsville, VA and Judy (Lawrence) Venable of Axton, VA; six brothers, Jesse D. (Katrina) Carter of Newport News, VA, Robert S. (Rebecca) Carter of Danville, VA, Kimberly B. Carter, Alan Scott Carter, and Dale B. Carter all of Martinsville, VA, and Terrance J. (Dedra) Carter of Orlando, Fl; eleven grandchildren; a special companion, Frank Miller of Summerfield, NC; one stepdaughter, Toccara Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A visitation service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 12 noon at the C.R.V. Memorial Chapel at Hairston Funeral Home with Bishop Lorenzo Hall, presiding. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Lawrence Venable, 319 Tommy Carter Rd, Axton, VA.
