Obituary For Joe Martin, Sr.

Joe Martin Sr. 86, of Stoneville, NC passed Tuesday, July 30, 2024. Public viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Perry Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, NC. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Mary D. Perry Chapel, Madison, NC from 12:30 p.m - 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Hairston Cemetery, 174 Shady Grove Rd., Eden, NC.

Joe Louis Martin, Sr., the last of ten children was born April 15, 1938, to the late John Robert Martin and Lizzie Dalton Martin. He departed this earthly life on July 30, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He attended Rockingham County Schools. He worked the majority of his life in textile and retired from Unifi after 30 years of service in 2003. After retiring from Unifi, he was employed at Tuttleā€™s Berry Farm for over 15 years. He was also a tobacco farmer.

He married his sweetie, Margaret C. Martin on May 9, 1964, and from this union two children were born. Joe loved his family, friends, UNC basketball team and the Washington Red Skins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Burley Martin, Mozella M. Smith, Doris Bolden and Elizabeth M. Penn, five brothers, Robert Lee, Glenn, Lindburg, Odell, and James Martin.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of sixty years, Magaret (Ann) C. Martin, two sons, Joe Louis Martin Jr. (Junae), and Michael Glenn Martin, grandson, Jared Martin and granddaughter, Jamir Scales. Two brothers-in-law, Benny Bolden and Aaron Dalton. Two sisters-in-law, Annie Martin and Ruby Martin and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
