Obituary For Ella Louise Simmons

On July 31, 1933, Henry Garfield Garrett and Ella Mae Davis Garrett of Talladega County, Alabama welcomed their first daughter, Ella Louise.

Mrs. Simmons dedicated her life to Christ and united with Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church where she served as church secretary and an usher. She was educated in the schools of Talladega County and was a graduate of R. R. Moton High School. She continued her education obtaining her degree and worked as a cosmetologist. Ella was employed with Wehadkee Yarn Mill and served as a substitute teacher and bus driver with both Talladega City Schools and Talladega County School System until retirement. After retirement, Mrs. Simmons volunteered her time at Citizens Baptist Medical Center where she was known to great patrons with a smile in the hospital gift shop.

On August 11, 1952, Ella and the late Leroy Simmons were united in holy matrimony and their union remained until his passing on July 18, 2022. When Mrs. Simmons was not performing her duties as a wife and mother, she enjoyed traveling, floral designing and creating ceramics. She was also a member of Ethel Chapter #75 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Simmons leaves to cherish her memories: five children, Leroy Simmons, Jr. of Detroit, Michigan, Beverly (Robin Terrell) Torruella of Columbus, Georgia, Cornada (Veronica) Simmons of Huntsville, Alabama, Verna Renee Beavers of Talladega, Alabama and Centauri Simmons of Talladega, Alabama; ten grandchildren, Sierra (Warren), Cameron, Lanard (Kia), Laquanda (Derrick), Markeith, Lakeisha, Amber (Christopher), Cory, Zion and Jayce; a host of great grandchildren; four sisters, Pearlie Garrett and Lily Ruth (Rev. Walter) Jones of Talladega, Alabama, Eloise Reynolds of Sycamore, Alabama and Mary J. Davis Buggs of Anniston, Alabama; and a host of other relatives and friends.

On July 26, 2024, Mrs. Simmons ended her earthly journey at Citizens Baptist Medical Center. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Leroy Simmons, Sr.; her parents, Henry and Ella Mae Garrett; six siblings, Jessie Garrett, Samuel Garrett, Harry Thomas, Roy Lee Garrett, John Edward Garrett, Sr. and Booker Ezell Garrett; and one grandson, Lamar Simmons.

Condolences to the families of Louise Simmons, you will remain in my prayers. Friendship was established many many years ago. I know that she will be missed but just remember The Master's plan. Mrs. Louise, I am gonna miss you so much. I've know you since l was a little girl getting on the bus. You always had great advice for us and a switch if we got out of line on the bus. You were like a second mother to me and I will always be grateful for that. I love you and tell Mr Leroy I said hello. You rest well angel.
