Obituary For Ms. Cleo Collins Mathis

Ms. Cleo Collins Mathis of Panama City, FL transitioned from this life on July 16th in the Ascension Sacred Heart Bay with her family at her side. She fought the good fight of faith She was 72 years old.

Our beloved received the precious gift of life on June 26, 1952, in Panama City to the late Mr. Nathan and Mrs. Arutha Hair Collins, and bonus nurturing from a beloved stepmom Earnestine Collins.

Cleo was educated in the Bay County School System. She began her career at Long Beach Resort as a Housekeeper, working summers when school was out. She was later employed with Panama City Nursing Center as a CNA, later as an Activity Director for over 40 years before retiring. She loved caring for people and was a great listener, communicator and was definitely lots of fun to be around.

Cleo joined First Mount Moriah Baptist Church and was baptized at an early age. She was an active choir member and attended on a regular basis and served in other capacities when she could. She has through the years maintained a belief in God and a spiritual connection with Him.

She leaves to cherish forever her life, legacy and memory, a loving and devoted son, Clyde Mathis lll, (Christy) of Panama City, FL, and grandsons, Quentin & Christian Mathis; loving siblings, Debbie Green, Larry Collins (Liz) of Columbus, GA, Charlie Collins of Columbus, GA, Pamela Cooper of Panama City, FL; niece, Belinda Martin (Eugene); nephews, Andrew Everett (Victoria) Pensacola, FL., and longtime friend, Joe Pennington; and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 26th at First Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church from 4-6pm. A Homegoing Celebration will be held Saturday, July 27th at 11am at First Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Aldredge L. Young, Pastor Lynva N. Masslieno, Jr. Reverend Darryl Hill and Elder Carlos Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Redwood Cemetery with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.
