Obituary For Pauline Thomas Blackwell

Pauline Thomas Blackwell “Chief” 81, passed Wednesday, July 24, 2024. Public viewing will be held Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Perry Spencer Funeral Home, Eden, NC from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024 at Bluestone Baptist Church, 9892 NC Hwy #700, Pelham, NC, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pauline Thomas Blackwell sunrise on October 27, 1942 and sunset at 81 years of age on July 24, 2024 of Pelham, North Carolina at Penn Nursing Center. Pauline was a strong and resilient woman of great caliber. She was the daughter of late Edna & Lewis Withers and Roger Gunter, Sr.

Growing up in Ruffin, NC she graduated from Booker Washington High School where she was known as “Chief” for her phenomenal basketball skills. After graduating she moved to Durham, NC where she attended Durham Business College and earned a degree in business administration. She devoted many years of service at Lorillard Company, Danville, Virginia. She loved fishing and it was nothing for her to enjoy sitting at the bay. Her joy was to say, “I’m going fishing to catch a bass”.

She was also preceded in death by her spouse, Clyde Blackwell, Sr.

She leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters and one son; Exia Lipscomb (Harold), Amy Blackstock, Shontale Hampton, Jr. (Arthur) and Clyde Blackwell, Jr. (Trisi). Brother; James Withers (Hilda) and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

8-5-2024 I just found out today that Pauline had passed away. I had not seen her lately and asked about her today when I visited my Mother who is a patient also at Annie Penn Nursing Home. To the Family, I am so sorry you have lost her. I have missed her. She was such a pleasure to know. The Nursing Home will not be the same without her. Marie James Joyce

Shontele and family, Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved Mom Pauline....I remember her back in the day at Booker T. Washington H. S. She dominated the basketball court🏀🏀🏀A STAR athlete!!
