Obituary For Shirley Ann Demps Morrison

Shirley Demps Morrison was born in Lowndes County on March 22, 1959, to the late Charlie Jack Daniels and Lizzie Demps Daniels. Shirley’s journey in this life ended on Monday, July 22, 2024, at her home in Valdosta, GA with her children by her side. She lived a blessed 65 years and is now resting eternally in the “Hands of the Lord.”

She attended Christ Temple Church and would occasionally visit other churches in Valdosta, GA. She was employed in the health care field for many years before an injury caused her to become disabled.

Shirley was a loving and devoted mother to her three children, and she always put her family first. She had an amazing bond with her children, and she lovingly referred to them as her three little monkeys or her little sheep. She was a loving and dedicated daughter and assisted in taking care of her late mother and her aunt for many years without any hesitation.

Shirley was known by her childhood nickname, “Totsy,” but because of her generosity and love for others, she soon became “Mama Totsy” to her grandchildren, her children’s friends, neighbors and others who knew her. Shirley was also known for her loving kindness, genuine care and support of others. Like her mother, Shirley took Jesus’ commandment in Matthew 23:29 “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself to heart.” “Mama Totsy” always took time to engage in genuine conversation or offer words of advice. She was always willing to provide a hot meal, a place to lay your head, or a few dollars that she would ball up and put in your hands. She also enjoyed fishing, shopping and decorating her house. She loved flowers and having her children and grandchildren help plant them or hang them around her house.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was proceeded in death by her sister Maggie Gates, sister-in-law –in-law Mary Demps; grandson Antuan Bennett, nephews Nathan Gates and Matthew Zachary Moss, niece Shantana Arnold and son-in law Kelvin (“K-Moe”) Moore.

She will forever be in the hearts of her children, Latoya Demps, Shemeka Brantley- Morrison (Lashonda Brantley- Morrison) and Johnny Morrison, Jr. (Latoya Morrison) and her life-long partner, Alvin Corker all of Valdosta, GA.

Her memory will always be cherished by her sister Mary Turner (Albert), Thomasville, GA; brothers Charles Demps (Margurite), Robert Demps (Deborah), Theodore Demps (Lynette James), Valdosta, GA; aunt Leila Robinson (Thomasville, GA) and uncle Jack Demps (Whigham, GA).

Her legacy of love will continue through the lives of her grandchildren, Cadeshia Demps, Rico Ramsey, Jr., Jahmal Council, Jr. Bernard (“Suga”) Morrison, Johnny Brown, Jacori Morrison, Brandon Brown, Jacobi Demps, Lashanti Strawder, Trey Morrison, Shamariun Morrison, Jukelie Brantley, Nehemiah Strawder, Isis Strawder, Nilayh Morrison, Johnny Morrison, III and her 12 great grandchildren; Omari Hudson, Jahkenzie Davis, Nicole Miller, Jayden Ramsey, Braelyn Morrison, Ashari Blair, Milani Morrison, Kylie Carpenter, Jayce Morrison, Summer Morrison, Kai Council, Jacari Brown, one special niece, Patricia Brundage; three life-long friends, Elaine Wrice, Vonnie Griffin, and Ethel Johnson. She will also be missed by a host of relatives, friends, and neighbors.

Home going service for Ms. Shirley Ann Demps Morrison will be held on Saturday, August 3 at 12:00 Noon at Christian Love Bible Baptist Church Rev. Jimmy Boyd is the pastor and Rev. Aaron Winston, Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in the Riverview Memorial Gardens. Public viewing will be on Friday, August 2 from 9:30 A. M. til 7:00 P. M.
