Rodney Thompson

June 7, 1957 – July 19, 2024

Rodney Thompson was born in Rock Hill, SC on June 7th, 1957. After a vibrant and fulfilling life Rodney was called home to be with the Lord on July 19th, 2024.

Rodney grew up in SC and graduated from Rock Hill High School in May 1975. While in high school Rodney was multitalented in academics, drama, track, and basketball. After high school Rodney received a track and field scholarship to attend Campbell

University in Buies Creek, NC. He later transferred to Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC where he received a B.S. in Sociology. He also received a Masters of Business Education from Winthrop University and an Advanced Master’s Degree in School Administration from UNC Charlotte.

Throughout his work career Rodney enjoyed various professions. He was a counselor at Keystone Substance Abuse Services of York County for over a decade. He was President of Thompson Concrete Construction in Charlotte, NC. He retired as Dean of Students at Whitewater Middle School with Charlotte Mecklenburg

School System after 24 years of service as an educator and administrator.

Rodney excelled at many hobbies. He loved to read, he was a published author, an accomplished golfer, extraordinary cook, avid gardener, and creative handyman. He was an active member at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where he served on the Ministry of Andrew’s Fellows, taught Sunday school, and became a deacon in 2023. Rodney loved life. He had a witty sense of humor which always brought laughter to those around him. He enjoyed all genres of music and loved to dance. Rodney also loved dogs and dogs loved him!

He is preceded in death by his Mother, Estell Hinton Thompson, and Father, Willie Beacher Thompson. Two Brothers, Willie “Wolf” L. Thompson and Beacher Curtis Thompson. He leaves to cherish his loving wife, Vickie Bryant Thompson, two daughters, Ashley and Jillian, three bonus children Lynn (Evan), Megan (Ian), and Brandon (Kellie); seven grandchildren, Emery, Colton, Rayne, Avery, Kingston, Caleb, and Brandon II; three brothers, Terry Thompson (Rosa), Michael Thompson (Cynthia), and Donald Thompson; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, July 27th, 12: noon at Mt Carmel Baptist Church, 7237 Tuckasegee Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28214.

Parker Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
