Deacon Charlie “Chuck” Butler Jr., died peacefully at home on 7/21/2024 in Columbus, Georgia at the age of 68.

Chuck was born on October 30, 1955, in New Orleans, LA. He graduated from Ferriday High School in 1973, and after graduating high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Later in years he met his beloved wife Cynthia, while stationed at Fort Ord, California. After a 21-year military career he retired as a 1SG (1st Sergeant) in 1995 from Ft. Benning, GA. After retiring from the military, he attended trade school at Columbus Technical Institute, where he earned Diplomas in Appliance Servicing, Automotive Collision Repair, and as a Certified Construction Worker.

He is remembered as a kind, patient, giving and loving soul. He was the type of man who loved to do for others in need. He instilled in children the value of hard work, keeping your word and most importantly to always put God first in everything.

Chuck was passionate about his family. Having them all gathered under one roof is what brought a smile to his face. He just loved the sound of laughter, a house full of noise, and knowing his family was together having a good time. He was a generous individual who loved fishing, cooking on the grill, and most importantly teaching Gods Word. He was an active and devout member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Ministry and as the Superintendent of Sunday School and anywhere else where he could serve the Lord.

He is preceded in death by Beulah Dorsey (biological mother) and Joan Butler (Adoptive Mother).

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia L. Butler; children, Dartangan Butler (LaShelle) and Delvin Williams (Jacqueta); siblings, Charlene Barnes of Lewisville, Tx, and Angelina Dorsey of New Orleans, La.; devoted nephew, Clarence Dorsey; grandchildren, Zhe’Vaughn Butler, Branae Stevenson, Tina Adams, Braxton Cobb, Taylor Butler, Jaidyn Williams, Ryann Butler and Jeremiah Strange; three great grandchildren; three god children; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
