Obituary For Deacon Calvin "Pap" Wooden, Sr.

The funeral services for the late Deacon Calvin “Pap” Wooden, Sr., who departed this life on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie, Georgia, will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. from the Friendship Baptist Church in Bridgeboro, Georgia. Reverend Donnie Ray Hall will deliver the Eulogy. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Church Cemetery in Sylvester, Georgia. Calvin Wooden Sr. was born May 24, 1941 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Ewoodie Wooden of Bridgeboro, Georgia.

Calvin, also known as “Pap” from his childhood, graduated from the Worth County School System and was drafted into the United States Military in 1965, where he served his country until he received an Honorable Discharge. He also attended and graduated from Albany Technical College with certification in Drafting. He worked very hard and diligently his whole life and retired at the age of 67 from Addison Corp.

Calvin gave his life to Christ at an early age, and joined his childhood church, Friendship Baptist Church in Bridgeboro, Georgia. He had been a longtime Faithful and spirit-filled Deacon of Friendship Baptist Church of many years. Calvin wore many hats at Friendship. The Man of Faith is a character that was presented each time he came to serve in the House of the Lord, always making sure the church, its members, and the community churches are taken care of. In his time at home, Pap never missed a chance to watch or see his favorite team, the Atlanta Braves, with Mr. Wilbur. He was a loving husband and God-fearing man who loved spending time with family, church, fishing, and cutting grass.

John 8:36 states, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed”. Calvin was set free from earth to live his next life with God on July 19, 2024 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 27 years, Patricia Ann Thomas Wooden, his brothers Winston Wooden, Thomas Wooden, Charles Wooden, Minister Paul Wooden, and a sister Bernice Hayes.

Calvin leaves to cherish his memories six children, Gail (Henry) Walker of Albany, Georgia, Calvin (Niecy) Wooden, Jr. of Lake City, Florida, Deborah Jackson of Albany, Georgia, Elaine Thomas of Doerun, Georgia, Tanya (Steve) Hill of Ty Ty, Georgia, Tameka Wooden of Tifton, Georgia; four step-children, Randy Thomas of Columbus, Georgia, Todd (Tomika) Thomas of Thomasville, Georgia, Tracy Wood, Lafel Thomas, both of Moultrie, Georgia; 24 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren; three sisters, Doris (Robert) Lawson, Yvonne (Morris) Miller, both of Bridgeboro, Georgia, Dorothy Coleman Mack of Savannah, Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Earnestine Wooden, Ella Mae Wooden, both of Albany, Georgia’ Three brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-laws; a dear friend, Jessie Mae Wooden., host of other relatives, family, and friends.
