Obituary For William Lee Lindsey, III

William Lee Lindsey, III, 72, of Eufaula, AL passed Thursday, July 18, 2024 in Eufaula, AL.

Funeral service to be held Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. EST in the C.T. Chapel of Taylor Funeral Home. Burial to follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.

Mr. William Lee Lindsey, Ill, affectionately known as “Donnie” and to his family as Blackberry was born on April 24, 1952, in Russell County, AL to William Lee Lindsey, Jr. and Mary Bell Hines Lindsey, who preceded him in death. He was the sixth of sixteen children. Three of whom preceded him in death, Robert Lindsey, Christopher Lindsey, and Mary Jean Lindsey.

Donnie loved the Lord and accepted Christ at an early age. He also loved getting into mischief with his siblings, working in the field, and learning the construction trade from his father. He also enjoyed singing hymns with his mother. Donnie attended Pittsview High School. At seventeen, Donnie enlisted in the United States Army and was sent to the Vietnam War. After returning from the Vietnam War, he was honorably discharged and completed a Certification Course in Automotive Services and Technology. He then met and married his first wife Lucy Robinson Lindsey, and from that union bore three children.

Donnie moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1977. After moving to Michigan, Donnie met Alma Gray, who became his second wife and from this union bore four children. Donnie was well known for his skills as a mechanic. He was famous for saying "No. I don't work on cars, I fix 'em." He didn't just love classic cars, he loved to build and race them too. His love of fast cars was so infectious, it spilled over to many of you. He was also a prolific guitarist and singer. In fact, he loved guitars so much, that there was one within arms reach most of the time. Thumping a guitar as he would call it, and tapping his foot while watching the news was a pastime of his. Donnie was also an avid gardener and grew the best veggies. His last garden is still growing today!

His one-of-a-kind sense of humor was a major part of who he was and kept everyone who knew him laughing. It was nearly impossible to leave a conversation with him without laughter. He was a clever guy and had a way with words. He was the best at talkin' trash and people gathered around each and every day to watch him do it! He was either talkin' trash while playing spades, fixing cars, talking on the phone or just because he could. Donnie also loved going to the "filling station" at whatever hour, getting his coffee every morning, and playing his lottery daily. He hit often too! That's probably the only thing that he didn't talk trash about, 'cause Donnie wasn't telling you about his money. He had two pockets he pulled money from, one with the small bills and one with the big bills. And if you knew Donnie, you knew which one he was pulling from. Donnie was giving at the same time. He fixed cars for many people who didn't have the money to pay him. He was always there whenever he was called. Donnie was a very lovable guy and left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Even while battling his illness, he had the hospital staff raving about their favorite patient and we all love and miss him tremendously.

He leaves to cherish all of these memories: The love of his life, Alma Laverne Gray; his seven children; Felesha Piersons, Kandice Williamson-Patton (Brandan), Curtis Lindsey, Kimberly Gray, Shawonna Lindsey, Kristopher Gray Lindsey, Kierra Bolden (Willie); a grandfather to seventeen, Kajhmere Gray, Brittany Perry, Elsie Pearce, Chelsea McKinley, Kachet' Williamson, KeAndre' Chester, Charli Montgomery, King Gray, Trinity Gray, Nailah Bolden, Tristan Rhodes, Kailah Williamson, Kolaiah Goolsby, Nava Bolden, Michaiah Pickett, Meagan Patton, Nasir Bolden and a great-grandfather to 9.
