Obituary For Cely Boatman Sims

Cely Mae Boatman Sims (Coot) was born to the late James "ID" and Ruby Lee Boatman in Asheville, Florida on May 20, 1940. She departed her life on July 9, 2024 in Valdosta, Georgia.

She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Quitman and later she joined Mt. Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Quitman, Georgia.

As a young child, she moved from Florida to Quitman, Georgia, then later resided in Valdosta, Georgia. She was the oldest girl out of 7 kids.

She was preceded in death by James Boatman, BJ Boatman, Ulysesses Boatman, Sylvester Boatman and Bennie Boatman.

She currently has one living sister, Dorothy Hamilton in Valdosta, Georgia. She was a homemaker with different job titles.

But, she loved to cook and was a devoted mother of five kids.

She leaves a legacy of love to loving and precious daughter, Ruby Sims, of Lakeland, FL, Lynette Sims of Americus, GA, Teresa Crumby, Boston, GA, two remarkable sons, Oscar Sims of Naples, FL, Sylvester Sims (Chandra) of Ocala, FL and a special nephew, Tyrone Boatman of Thomasville, GA; 12 grandkids, 10 great grandkids and a host of cousins and friends. She was married to Oscar Sims of Naples, FL until his death.

A celebration of life will be Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 2PM at the Evelyn McGhee Community Center. Burial will follow in the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
