Obituary For Rev. Garnie Shorter

Today we celebrate the life of Reverend Garnie Shorter who was born on April 7, 1937, to the late John and Fannie Shorter. Raised in Taliaferro County, Reverend Shorter attended the county's schools in his formative years. Years later, he would meet and marry the love of his life, Eltrude Sneed Shorter, and to their union five children were born.

At an early age, Reverend Shorter joined New Battery Baptist Church where he accepted Christ and was baptized. He served faithfully for years as deacon, then on December 7, 1997, he was licensed under the Reverend Ricky Lockhart, then ordained on December 28, 1997. Reverend Shorter led a very active life, serving in ministry, serving his community, and serving his family. He is the former pastor of Langston Grove Baptist Church, Thomson, Georgia and Lyonsville Baptist Church, Rayle, Georgia. He served in several organizations and, in many capacities, to include: the General Missionary Baptist Convention, the National Baptist Convention, 2nd Shiloh Association, Congress of Christian Education, Chaplain of Morgan and Jasper County Sheriff's Department, Assistant Dean of Madison Baptist Association and Associate Pastor of Springfield Baptist Church.

Over the years, Reverend Shorter has worked tirelessly until his death. He was a mechanic, and a master at his craft working for Ed Samples Automotive, Universal Ford and James Short Ford. In recent years he proudly drove for the School Bus for Greene County. He also worked at Molly's Truck Stop until his illness.

Reverend Shorter transitioned from this life oh Friday, July 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Eltrude Sneed Shatter and three sons, Samuel Shorter, Lionel Shorter and Orecia Shorter and one grandson, Jayson Shorter; his four brothers Rev. Johnny Clark "J.C." Shorter, Rev. Norman Shorter, Bennie Shorter and Rev. William B. Shorter; and one sister Frances Ware. He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted children one son, Aubrey Shorter of White Plains, GA, one daughter, Latisha Shorter of White Plains, GA, nine grandchildren: Tychia (JeAnthony) Alexander, Kyjia Thomas, Shanteria (Travis) Edelen, Carissa Shorter, Jasmine Shorter, Brittany Shorter, Brianna Shorter, Jerrell Shorter, and Kenisha Lynch, 17 great-grandchildren and a host of in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.


Services: Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. from Rock Hill Baptist Church, White Plains, Ga. 30678 with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Horton, Eulogist.

I am sad to learn of the passing f my friend, Garnie. We worked to gather at the Transmission shop, in the sixty s. I learned a lot from Garnie...He was great automobile technician, a master at rebuilding automatic transmission.....Yet more important he was a good man.Remaining family be proud.. R I P my friend.
