Obituary For William Richardson Gainey

William Gainey, 79 of Greensboro, NC passed Wednesday, July 10, 2024. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Hinnant Funeral Services, 512 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Greensboro, NC with the “Celebration of Life” beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Deep Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 4608 Deep Creek Road, Wadesboro, NC.

William Richardson Gainey, was born July 22, 1944 in Wadesboro, NC. He completed his earthly assignment peacefully in his sleep, the morning of Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Greenhaven Health’s & Rehabilitation, of Greensboro, NC after a short illness. William was a kind, humble and loving, he served God well as peacemaker, encourager and true friend to many. William, was better known as “Will” was blessed to be parented by a loving father and mother of the late Olen B. and late Lugenia Gainey.

“Will” accepted Christ as his savior at a very young age. He was then baptized and joined West Deep Creek Baptist Church, in Wadesboro, NC he also attended Deep Creek Elementary. After moving to Greensboro, NC he continued his education at Poplar Grove Elementary and graduated from Brown Summit High School. “Will” started working odds jobs and later he gravitated to the food industry that was his love for years until his retirement. “Will” loved a good joke, sitting on the front porch, watching his favorite T.V. shows, wearing his jewelry and his red brim hat along with his “love for women”.

He was also preceded in death by three sisters; Hattie Mae Gainey, Belinda Faye Womble (better known as, T.K.), Clady L. Hilliman (Lu,

Lu) and three brothers; Joseph Clifton Gainey, Herbert Franklin Gainey and Otis Gainey.

He leaves to cherish his unforgettable memory: Two sisters; Brenda Faye Green (David) and Sarah Gainey Davis. One brother; Burlin Olen “Pete” Gainey along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
