“To every thing, there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven; A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
Ronald Gene Green, Sr was born on February 16, 1945, in Athens, Texas, to the late Billie Jim and Ernestine Price Green. After his mother’s untimely passing, he was raised by his grandmother, Odessa Price James.
Ronald was raised in the church and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. In his youth, he was very active in sports. He attended Lincoln High School, in Athens, and later received a football scholarship to attend Bishop College. After college, he relocated to California where he met his lifelong partner and friend.
On January 25, 1969, Ronald married his wife, Cynthia Owens Green. From this union, they had 6 children. In 1979, he and his wife relocated to Louisiana with their two older children to help operate Owens Grocery and Market. In 1984, Ronald and Cynthia opened the doors of Greens Crafts for Tots Early Learning Center and successfully ran the business until 2011. Ronald continued to operate Owens Grocery and Market and serve the Valley Park Community until his health started to fail in 2023.
Ronald joined New Gideon Baptist Church in 1979 where he was an active member of the Usher and Greeters Ministry.
Ronald passed away on July 6, 2024, at the age of 79, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 55 years, Cynthia E. Owens Green, daughters Sharon, Kristi, Erica (Tyrone), Malissa (Broderick), ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two Goddaughters, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a dear childhood friend, Vernon Clay.
He was preceded in death by his mother Ernestine Green, father Billie Jim Green, grandmother Odessa James, uncles James and Stanford Price, infant daughter, Monica Ernestine Green, and twin sons Reginald and Ronald Green, Jr.
