Obituary For Deacon Booker D. Wade

Booker Dalton Wade of Washington, D.C., son of the late Rufus and Mary Hairston Wade, was born on October 30, 1925, in Martinsville, VA. He was the last surviving of eleven children born to this union. The Lord peacefully called him home on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Springs, MD.

In addition to his parents, Booker was preceded in death by all of his siblings: Jessie (Ernestine), Estelle Shelton (John), Gracie Grant (James), Dorothy Pratt (Jimmy), Lester (Floretta), David (Mary Hairston of Martinsville, VA, his only living sister-in-law from the Wade family), Russell, Floyd (Marie), and Helen Smith Preston of Martinsville, VA, his only living sister-in-law from the Preston Family.

Booker was educated in the Henry County, VA Public School System. He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.

Booker was married to the late Georgia Preston for a union of 60 loving years. From that union two daughters were born: Ruth Wade Marriott (Melvin) of Baltimore, MD and Mary Taylor Wade of Washington, D.C.; one beloved granddaughter, Tamara C. Marriott of Baltimore, MD and one foster son, Michael Hairston of Cleveland, OH.

A visitation service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. with the funeral at 12 noon at Mountain View Baptist Church, 430 Chestnut Knob Rd., Martinsville, VA with Pastor Kaven Smith, Eulogist. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 869 Parkway Dr., Martinsville, VA with Military Honors.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Live streaming of the funeral service will be available at Hairston Funeral Home live via Facebook.
