Ms. Clara Mae Surratt

Clara Mae Surratt (aka: Neb) departed her earthly life to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center in Shelby. She was born May 12, 1929 to Kelly Surratt and Janie Wright Surratt at home delivered by a mid-wife in the Double Shoals Community.

Clara entered the public schools of Cleveland County attending Philadelphia and Douglas Schools. She received her GED through CCC at the Hoppers Chapel Site. She accepted Christ and became a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church at an early age, and in later years became a member of Hoppers Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and was the Mother of the Church.

Preceding her in death are her parents, three brothers, Z.K. Surratt, Nekota Wright and Will Wright; seven sisters, Ceonia Jackson, Alice Surratt, Bessie Surratt, Alice Wilson, Matilda Jeter, Elaine Gash, Lola Eskridge, Daisy Hall and Lula Mae Hopper.

Ms. Clara is survived by her daughter, Linda Joyce Surratt Wallace (Rev. Wade Wallace); son, Donald Ray Surratt; granddaughters, Sharon A. Wallace Tucker (Alvin), Jacqueline Y. Wallace, and Cindy R. Williams; great grandchildren, Dazreal B. Williams, Myasia E. Mason, Tela M. Williams, Aveiyon N. Rice, Zoelaya J. L. Rice, Tyrece Tucker, Terrance Tucker, Jaylon Caster and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Hoppers Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:00 PM on Tuesday and at other times at 3310 Lake Drive Shelby from 1:00 until 7:00 through Monday.
