Obituary For Christopher J. Hinton

Christopher Jerome Hinton was born on September 23, 1952, in Raleigh, North Carolina, to the late James Dudley Hinton, Sr., and Annie Mae Brooks Hinton. Chris matriculated through the Wake County public school system and graduated from Ligon High School in 1970. After graduating from high school, he attended Winston-Salem State University, where he received a BA in Music and pledged Phi Beta Sigma.

For about six months, Chris taught music in the Wake County school system, but around 1975, he joined the family business, JD Hinton Studios, where he developed a love and passion for photography. His passion and eye for detail afforded him the opportunity to work for the Tom Joyner Morning Show, where he traveled all over the United States photographing notables such as President Obama, President Bill and Hillary Clinton, Danny Glover, Mya Angelou, and many others. He was a well-known and high-demand photographer with a gift that captured the inner beauty of his subjects. As his talents and demand grew, he added engraving and mobile photography to his resumé.

In 2017, due to a car accident, Chris was paralyzed, but he did not lose his zeal for life or passion for music. During Christmas, he directed the Martin Luther King Jr. Choir drumline, which gave him such joy as he continued to share his gift of music. Chris enjoyed people and conversation and would play the devil’s advocate just to get you riled up and then break out laughing.

Chris was preceded in death by his father, James Dudley Hinton, Sr.; mother, Annie Mae Brooks Hinton; and his brother, James Dudley Hinton, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Willa Hinton; sons, Christopher (Jill) Barnes of Baton Rouge, LA, Jarrod (LaTania) McNeil, and Christopher Jerome Hinton II of Raleigh, NC; nine grandchildren; and a host of cousins, family, friends, and colleagues

Public Viewing: 12:30 - 5:30 pm Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at Trice Funeral Home Chapel, 127 N. West Street in Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.

Visitation: 11:00 am - 12:00 pm Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Christian Faith Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC 27610.

Funeral will be held at 12:00 pm Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Christian Faith Baptist Church, 509 Hilltop Drive in Raleigh, NC 27610.

Burial: Carolina Biblical Gardens, 1530 Creech Road in Garner, NC 27610.

To Willa and Family, I was saddened to learn of the passing of Chris, whom I referred to as my "Big Brother" because of the relationship we developed during our work with the NC NAACP State Conference. Like many others, Chris became my personal photographer for special events that only he could capture in photography. He had quite a sense of humor. I will forever remember his big smile and friendship that we shared. On behalf of the Hoke County Branch NAACP, may God grant you the strength and comfort in the coming days to give you peace knowing that Chris is alright. His legacy has been etched in the photographic memory of all the lives he touched. Sending my love. Councilwoman Jackie McLean, Branch President, Hoke County NAACP

Chris,I will always remember our college days at WSSU as we greeted each other as homegirl and homeboy and how you would ask me to help you out whenever you were in a "situation" that only a homegirl could help you out with. (smile) I can still see you in my mind's eye marching with the WSSU band and doing pledge season doing your Phi Beta Sigma step. After college our friendship continued and our conversations were always long and enjoyable whenever we were in each other's company. May you rest now in eternal peace. I extend my condolences to the family. Maritza Hicks
