Obituary For Virgil Fitzchue Poston

Mr. Virgil F. Poston, 86, of 2515 Shoal Creek Church Road, Shelby, NC departed this life on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at his residence. He was born on June 10, 1938 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Elder Paul and Sarah Degree Poston.

Mr. Poston was a lifelong resident of Shelby. He attended Cleveland High School and was employed with Shelby Presbyterian Church for 35 years where he was known for his tea and donuts. He enjoyed working on cars, gardening, fishing and helping people. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Gaffney, SC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Poston; two sisters, Peggy Poston and Doris Williamson and four brothers, Arthur Poston, L.C. Poston, James Poston and Paul Poston, Jr.

He leaves cherished memories to his beloved wife of 64 years, Dorothy W. Poston, his children, Donita Poston (Paul Boykins), Kenneth Poston, Lisa Poston Dawkins and Brantt Poston (Sharon Bailey) all of Shelby; a brother, Bishop Alfonzo Poston (Sue) of Richmond, VA; a sister, Sarah Louise Barrow (Tommy) of Shelby; daughter-in-law, Miranda Poston of Waco, NC; four grandchildren, Dr. Christan Horton (Ronald) of Kernersville, NC, Ambrose Wilson of Shelby, Keeshunda Poston of Greenville, NC and Stanley Poston, Jr. of Wilmington, NC; two great-grandchildren, Ronald Horton, II and Mason Horton; a brother-in-law, Robert Lee Washington; two sisters-in-law, Dorothea Poston and Deborah Poston and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Concord Baptist Church at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 11:30 AM on Monday as well as the home. Mr. Poston may only be viewed on Sunday, June 30th from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Enloe Mortuary. There will be no viewing at the church.

To our family we are saddened to hear of the transition of Virgil as we called him .He was our Maw-Maw Mabelle Poston Ross' nephew. He always called us Cuz and shared his vegetables with us.God bless you family and know that we are in prayer for you .Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot bear. I will miss you Uncle Fit. I remember that huge garden you had and daddy making us pick vegetables. Daddy somehow forgot that so when you see him in Heaven please let him know it happened. RIP-your fight is over and you are now with God.
