Obituary For Carrie Maxine Brown Williams

Carrie Maxine Brown Williams passed on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, June 28 at Love & Faith Christian Fellowship, 4344 Blackberry Road, Greensboro, NC. The visitation will begin at 12:30 pm and the service will follow at 1 pm. The interment will be at Gwynns Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Pelhan, NC.

Carrie Maxine Brown Williams was born on Monday, September 15, 1941, to the late Rev. Joe Cephus and Bertha Badgett Brown in Pelham, North Carolina, as the fifth of ten children.

Her early years were spent on a tobacco farm in Pelham, North Carolina, in a home characterized by closeness, love, laughter, hard work, and Christian values. This environment laid the groundwork for her lifelong commitment to education, service, friends, family, and community. She deepened her Christian faith by attending Sunday School at Gwynn’s Chapel Baptist Church, where she was baptized and became an active member. Carrie graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Reidsville, North Carolina. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina.

Carrie started her professional career as a social worker with North Carolina Mobility in Goldsboro, North Carolina, assisting the underprivileged and elderly. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Richard Williams. She later worked as a social worker with the Guilford County Department of Social Services and then dedicated 21 years of service to the City of Greensboro Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA).

After retiring from the City, Carrie began homeschooling her two grandsons, Malcolm and Martin. She actively supported them in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, encouraging Malcolm to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Although retired, she remained active by working as a school crossing guard, after-school tutor, substitute teacher, and precinct worker with the Board of Elections. Additionally, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels. In her free time, she would often cook large pots of soup to serve the homeless and, on hot days, treat them to ice cream cones. She dedicated herself tirelessly to supporting her sister Betty Brown’s successful campaign for District Court Judge. Furthermore, Carrie had an avid love for pro basketball. She thoroughly enjoyed watching the NBA Playoffs and Finals with her family.

Carrie’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She served with humility and devotion in several ministries at Love and Faith Christian Fellowship. Her gratitude to God for the many opportunities and experiences she encountered was a testament to her unwavering faith and the source of her strength and generosity. As we bid farewell to Carrie Maxine Brown Williams, we remember the profound impact she had on our hearts and communities. Her legacy of integrity and compassion will continue to inspire future generations. We celebrate a life lived extraordinarily, not in sorrow, but with deep gratitude for the blessing of her presence among us.

Carrie Maxine Brown Williams was a beacon of faith, love, and service. Her unwavering dedication to her family, community, and faith left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her life exemplified the values of compassion, integrity, and perseverance, inspiring everyone she touched. As we remember and celebrate her remarkable journey, we carry forward her legacy, cherishing the memories and lessons she imparted. Her spirit will continue to guide and uplift us, reminding us of the power of a life lived with purpose and grace.

Carrie is lovingly remembered by her husband, Richard N. Williams Sr., her son, Richard N. Williams Jr., and her daughter, Carenna R. Williams. She also leaves behind her beloved grandsons, Malcolm (Hannah) and Martin Williams, her great-grandsons Aiden and Adam and great-granddaughter Penelope, the apples of her eyes. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters, Lucy McGregor, Novella Stewart, Ruth Adamson, Betty Brown, and her brother, James Brown. Carrie was preceded in death by her brothers, John Brown, Bernard Brown, William Brown, and Warren Brown. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Being closely related (cousins) and growing up around the Brown family, we're all moaning yet another loss of a dearly beloved family member, Maxine. Words don't adequately describe one's true feeling during such a time. After becoming adults and relocating, we often lose those frequent family interactions. However, the memories still exist. Such as, how Maxine looked after and protected her younger siblings, my little sister, brother and me from the aggressiveness of bigger children on the school bus. I will always remember how safe and secure that made us younger ones feel. This is just one the fond memories of Maxine. May she forever interact with the Angels.
