Sonya Quenette Blackmon

OPELOUSAS- A Celebration of the Life of Sonya Quenette Blackmon, 52, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Ford and Joseph Funeral Home in Opelousas, LA.

Sonya Quenette Blackmon was born to the union of the late Eugene Blackmon and the late Lula Mae Lavigne on Wednesday, November 10, 1971 in Houston, Texas. She departed this earthly life on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at 7:28 a.m. in Atlanta, GA.

She began her education at Plaisance High School in Plaisance, Louisiana. After graduating from Broadmoor High School in 1990 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where she worked in the legal field with Metro Atlanta Legal Services and in the music and film industry.

She advanced her academics with honors and professional training at Devry University and Concord Law School in Atlanta, Georgia where she obtained her MBA and Executive Juris Doctorate.

Sonya accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mohorn Baptist Church in the Plaisance community by the late Rev. Dr. Cyrus V. Jackson where she sang in the choir with her siblings.

Sonya enjoyed writing, cooking, reading, listening to her favorite music artists, watching YouTube videos, and chatting on the phone for hours with loved ones and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Blackmon and Lula Lavigne Robertson.

Survivors include: two daughters: Carliss Hardy of Dallas, Texas and Jhah Cook of Hamden, Connecticut; two sisters, Cynthia Carroll Chenier of Sunset, Louisiana and Chandra Carroll of Dallas, Texas; four brothers: Ray Anthony Carroll of Tucson, Arizona, Dennis Anson Carroll of Oakland, California, Norman Dexter Carroll of Los Angeles, California, and Delwyn Maurice Carroll (Annissa) of Bonifay, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
