Obituary For Barbara Jean "BJ" Grubbs

Ms. Barbara Jean “B.J.” Grubbs was born on June 27, 1958, to the late Curtis Grubbs, Sr. and Josephine Ellison Grubbs in Newark, New Jersey.

Public viewing will be held Friday, June 21, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at New Zion Baptist Church, 136 Church Street, Wrens, GA.

Celebration of Life Service is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the New Zion Baptist Church located at 136 Church Street, Wrens, Georgia. Following the service, internment will be held at the New Zion Church Cemetery on Sterling Street in Wrens, Georgia.

Barbara is a proud alumna of JP Stevens High School, Edison, N.J., graduating in 1978.

Being that loving and caring person that she was it was a joy for her to work as a Tech in the NIC-ICU Unit at Robert Woods Hospital for over 20 years. While residing in Rawyay, New Jersey she was baptized at Second Baptist Church, under the leadership of the Rev. James W. Ealey. Upon relocating to Georgia in 2013, Barbara continued her spiritual journey at New Zion Baptist Church, led by Rev. Bennie Holmes.

Barbara's warm demeanor and generosity were well-known within her community. Her role as a doorkeeper was not just a duty but a reflection of her welcoming nature. She was affectionately referred to as the "Candy Lady" for always having sweets to share. Barbara's friendly disposition and genuine smile made her a beloved figure to all who crossed her path.

She is preceded in death by three brothers James, Isaac, and Lamark as well as three sisters Carolyn, Janette, and Lillian.

Her presences will be forever felt by her loving family. “BJ” had no biological children of her own but she was instrumental in rearing the children of her late sister, Lillian Grubbs: Joseph Grubbs, Ashley Grubbs and Marquis Grubbs; her sisters, Evelyn Terrell of Wrens Georgia, Joann Costin of Plainfield NJ, Gloria Grubbs of Piscataway, New Jersey, Denise Gibson and Mary Grubbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Felicia Thornton of Linden, New Jersey, Illa “Elaine” Allen, Glenda (Marvin) Ward, Diane Cowley, Cynthia (James) Keyton all of Dothan, AL; brothers Curtis (Arlene) Grubbs, Jr. of Piscataway, New Jersey, Willie Grubbs of Nashville, Tennessee, Wayne (GiGi) Grubbs of Woodbridge, New Jersey, Ronnie Grubbs, Rahway, N.J., Joey Stevenson, Union, N.J.; aunts: Emma, Louise, Viola, Virginia and Pamela, several loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
