Obituary For Andrew James Scott

Sergeant Major Andrew James Scott β€œShortie”, father, and distinguished member of the United States Marine Corps, passed away on June 16, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on August 25, 1952, Andrew was a beacon of strength and honor throughout his life. Andrew's journey began in Arlington, GA, where he was born to O.C. Scott and Maggie Scott. He was preceded in death by his father, O.C. Scott and eldest son, Jonathan Andrew Scott.

His deep sense of duty and love for his country led him to enlist in the Marines, a decision that would define his life and earn him the admiration of all who served alongside him. Throughout his illustrious military career spanning over three decades, Sergeant Major Scott served with unparalleled dedication and bravery in numerous deployments and operations both at home and abroad. His leadership was marked by a steadfast commitment to excellence and a profound respect for his fellow Marines. He rose through the ranks with distinction, earning numerous awards and commendations for his valor and selflessness in the face of adversity.

Beyond his military service, Andrew cherished his role as a loving father to his son, Joseph β€œJP” Scott (Michelle Scott), and his daughter, Orkelle Latrese Little (Zachary Little). He took great pride in his grandchildren, Joseph Grayson Scott and Liam Andrew Little, whom he adored and who brought immense joy to his life. Andrew's legacy extends far beyond his military achievements. He was known for his kindness, humility, and unwavering support for his family and community. His passion for history, sports, and the outdoors was contagious, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Andrew is survived by his beloved mother, Maggie Scott; his siblings, William Scott (Catherine Scott), John Anthony Scott (Debra Scott), Linda Scott and Virgina Scott as well as his children and grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a source of strength and inspiration to his family, who will remember him for his kindness, integrity, and unwavering support. His love for history and sports inspired those around him, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Andrew's presence will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. His legacy of courage, integrity, and compassion will continue to inspire and guide us all. Rest in peace, Sergeant Major Andrew James Scott. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. We Love Shortie!

Funeral service will be held Friday, June 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

To the Scott family shorty was an amazing person and the whole Scott family was always family to us because we all grew up together at my Uncle Ray's Church and we love you guys.
