Obituary For Mattie Whiteside Billingsley

Funeral service for Mrs. Mattie Whiteside Billingsley, 94, of Talladega will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Terry’s Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be in Kingston Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the funeral home.

On September 3, 1929, in Alpine, Alabama, Grant and Willie Bell (née Simmons) Whiteside welcomed a daughter, Mattie Velma to their growing family.

At an early age, Mattie dedicated her life to Christ and united with Kingston Missionary Baptist Church. She received her education in the schools of Talladega County. On February 21, 1948, Ross Paige Billingsley took Mattie’s hand in holy matrimony. When Mattie was not caring for her husband and others, she enjoyed fishing and collecting stuffed animals. She also had a love for dogs.

Mrs. Billingsley leaves to cherish her memory: one brother, Jimmy L. Whiteside of Indianapolis, Indiana; her adopted family, Linda, Terry, Shetia, Brittany and Reggie; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

On the morning of Sunday, June 16, 2024, Mrs. Billingsley took her rest from this earthly life. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Ross P. Billingsley; her parents, Grant and Willie Bell Whiteside; and six siblings, Carrie, Ann, Sallie, Willie Lee, Casey and T. L. Sr.
