Ezra Gene Borders, 72, departed this life on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at his home in Charlotte, NC. He was born July 10, 1951, in Shelby, NC to the late Hillard Borders and Mattie Williams Borders.
Gene graduated from Burns High School where he was well known for playing football. After graduation he worked several jobs, until he later found his passion for driving trucks. He started locally and then took his skills on the road. Gene later started his own trucking business, E. G. Trucking Company. His family couldn’t believe he could even handle such a large truck like he did because he was so skinny; but he did. He drove a truck for 35 years. If you tried to tell him something, his favorite comeback phrase was “I been to 49 states”, smiling back at you.
Gene was a giving person. He made sure to always visit his friends and family when he returned home. He enjoyed helping others as well. He tried to be tough on the exterior but had such a soft heart.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; Miles and Della Borders, maternal grandparents; Matthew and Ada Williams, and his sisters; Geraldine Schenck and Belinda Davis.
Left to cherish his memory are his lovely daughter, Yolanda Machelle Borders (Will) of Waycross, GA; two precious grandchildren, Brookston and Easton Banks of Waycross, GA; sisters, Maxine Borders and Vanessa Mask of Shelby, NC; brother, Gary Borders(Lorraine) of Shelby, NC; two nephews, Nicholas Borders (Jalisa) of Charlotte, NC and Kyle Ferguson of New York; nieces, Sandra Ferguson of Rock Hill, SC, Tomeka and Nigeria Mask of Shelby, NC, Katrice Davis (Bryant) of Fort Mills, NC; brother in law, Darryl Davis of Shelby, NC; two close friends, George Howell and William Ager III; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 11 a.m. Reception of family and friends will begin at 10:30 am at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will be meeting at 2304 China Ave. Shelby.
