Obituary For Mr. Leroy Lyons

Mr. Leroy Lyons was born on December 21, 1943 to the late Will Clearance Lyons and Mattie Coleman Lyons. He departed this life on June 12, 2024 at his home.

Leroy matriculated through the Warren County School system and, after graduating, moved to New York City, where he worked for the NY Traffic Department. He later worked for the New York Transportation Department as a bus driver and retired after 28 years of service.

He was a member of Popular Springs Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board and a member of the adult Sunday School department, Laymen Group, and Senior Choir.

Leroy loved watching football and basketball, but what brought him the most joy was family and having family gatherings.

He was preceded in death by siblings Mrs. Emily B. Hines, Mrs. Martha A. Hargrove, Mr. Charles Lyons, Mr. Robert “Ed” Lyons, Mr. Will June Lyons and Mrs. Alvunetta Brown.

He leaves cherished memories to his wife of fifty-seven (57) years Mrs. Joyce M. Lyons of the home, two sons Mr. Cecil J. Lyons and Mr. Darrell Lyons (Delerine) of Concord, North Carolina. Six (6) grandchildren, two (2) great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The Services to Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Mr. Lyons will be on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, 12:00 noon, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory, Albemarle, North Carolina.
