In Loving Memory of Mark “Brother Marquis” Ross

Mark Ross, also known as "Brother Marquis" from the iconic rap group 2 Live Crew, passed away on June 3, 2024 at the age of 57. He was born on April 2, 1967 to Jan Ross and Charles Johnson in Rochester, NY.

Mark was a devoted father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. He is preceded in death by his mom, Jan Ross.

He’s survived by his daughter Raven Ross and her mother Michelle; Father, Charles (Joann) Johnson & siblings: April, Charles Jr., Calvin, Shani, and Curtis.

Mark was a talented creative who, since the young age of 14, dedicated much of his life to his passion for music and entertainment. Mark's lyricism resonated with audiences around the world. He was known for his charismatic stage presence and energetic performances. Mark's contributions to the music industry, culture, and history will always be remembered and cherished by his fans and fellow artists. Mark’s passion, talent, and determination to stand up for what’s right will continue to inspire musicians and entertain music lovers for years to come. Along with his career in the music industry, Mark enjoyed acting and comedy. He appeared in films, television, and stand-up comedy shows.

Mark enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved to ride his bike through the various cities he called home. He enjoyed movies and never turned down a home cooked meal. Mark’s infectious smile and voice is unforgettable. He could make anyone laugh and those who met him have at least one story to tell about his charm and personality.

Mark will be missed greatly by his extended family and friends in Atlanta, Gadsden, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, and Rochester, and by his fans worldwide. He was truly unforgettable. May his soul rest in peace.
