Obituary For Loretta Smith Hill

The funeral services for the late Mrs. Loretta Smith Hill, who departed this life on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia, will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. from the Brown Chapel C.M.E. Church in Sylvester, Georgia. Reverend Lindsey Napier will deliver the Eulogy. Burial will follow in the Shepard Memorial Garden Cemetery in Sylvester, Georgia. Mrs. Loretta Smith Hill was born on January 19, 1954 in Sylvester (Worth County), Georgia to the late Mr. and Mrs. George “Buster” and Ruenell Owens Smith. She was the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Will and Hattie Moe Jackson Owens and the late Mr. and Mrs. Warren and Lizzie Smith.

Loretta was educated in the Worth County Public School System and graduated from Worth County High School in 1971. She furthered her education by attending Ft. Valley State University, and graduating with B. S. Degree in Sociology in 1977. She worked in the Worth County Headstart Program for ten years and at Olam Edible Nuts for nine years.

Loretta gave her life to Christ and joined Brown Chapel C.M.E. Church in Sylvester, Georgia. She served as a faithful member until her health began to decline.

Loretta was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Jimmy Hill, Sr. and to this union one son was born: Jimmy Hill, Jr.

On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Loretta gave up this earthly life at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia. Her parents, grandparents, her siblings, Warren Smith, George Leonard Smith, Johnny Smith, have all preceded her in death.

Loretta leaves to cherish her memories her son, Jimmy Hill, Jr.; a niece, Jenise Smith; a nephew, Patrick (Donna) Alexander; great nieces, Maya Alexander, Camryn Alexander; a godson, Jeremy White; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Smith; and a host of special cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.

Sorry for your loss. Praying for you Jimmy. Loretta was a good person and I enjoyed working with her at Head Start. I remembered her pitching my daughter up on Sunday morning for Sunday school and giving her a speech on Easter Sunday. She will be truly be missed. A friend.
