Joe Nathan Tucker

Passed 05/27/2024

Deacon Joe Nathan Tucker answered the Lord’s call on Monday, May 27, 2024. We are gathered here today to celebrate his life and legacy. A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Deacon Tucker was born on August 7, 1944 to the late Gist, Sr. and Gertrude Tucker.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one grandson, Lyndon B. Anderson, Jr., one sister, Louise Edgeson and one brother, Gist Tucker.

Left to cherish his life are: his four daughters, Ingrid (Lyndon) Anderson of Duncan, SC, Candace Pruitt of Spartanburg, SC, Natasha Tucker of Greenville, SC, and Macarria, who he affectionately called sugar, (David) Stovall of Miami, FL; one brother, Robert (Sarah) Tucker; three sisters, Cora Lee McDowell, Rosa Mae Roberson (James) and Eloise (Gerald) Jones of Spartanburg, SC; nine grandchildren, Landon, Leah, and Logan Anderson Craig, Jr. and Caleb Pruitt Natahgee and Nicah McClintock Scarlett and Stella Stovall; and a host of relatives.

Deacon Tucker was a faithful member of the Harrison Grove Baptist church family where he and his then wife Evangelist Wilhelmena raised their four daughters.

Deacon Tucker was a hard worker retiring twice. First, from Draper Corporation with over 25 years of service and later retiring for the Spartanburg Transportation System with over 20 years of service. He believed in working hard for what you desired and for the past 5 years, he continued to keep himself busy by working part-time for Spartanburg District Five School Systems. When he was not working, you could find him on his riding lawn mower working in the yard cutting grass with a sense of pride and precision very few could match.

Deacon Tucker was not one of many words but his actions exemplified his love for his family especially his girls, Ingrid, Candace, Natasha, and Macarria as well as his grandchildren, his sisters and his brothers. Deacon Tucker was a supportive Father and Grandfather who was always present in the lives of his daughters and grandchildren till the very end.
