Obituary For Ray C. Anderson, Sr.

In the quiet embrace of his Youngstown home, with the warmth of love and cherished memories of family and friends surrounding him, Ray C. Anderson Sr. transitioned from this earthly realm on May 28, 2024. Ray was born on January 28, 1956, in Brent, Alabama, to the union of the late R.D. Sr. and Marie Anderson.

He attended East High School and Youngstown State University, attaining a bachelor's degree in social work. Ray worked for Youngstown Steel Door, Youngstown Society for the Blind and various other places of employment before his retirement.

A devoted member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, Ray also proudly served in the Navy, embodying loyalty, and dedication in all facets of his life. Known for his unwavering support for the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Lakers, he found joy in cheering on his favorite teams.

Ray leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life wife the former Carolyn V. Daniels who he married April 11, 1981, daughter Stephanie of Youngstown and son Ray Jr. (Tanisha) of Columbia, Tennessee.

His enduring legacy will be sustained by his granddaughters Stacia, who he reared, and Kennedy of Tennessee, as well as his grandsons Zajdel of New York, Bre’Shon & Jeremiah of Youngstown, and Cameron & Khari of Tennessee.

Ray's spirit will be cherished by his sisters, Maria “Sister” Williams, Ola Mae Anderson, Bettie “Tip” (Dwayne) Shinn all of Youngstown and brothers RD Anderson Jr of Jacksonville, FL and Jessie Anderson of Fairborn, OH. He also is lovingly remembered by his sisters & brothers-in- law which includes Ruby & Curtis Daniels, Mary & Al Avery, Edward & Pastor Cynthia Palmer, along with an expansive score of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, family, and friends.

Ray is now seated among the ancestors and was welcomed into eternal life by his parents, His brothers, L.D. “Snap” Anderson, Ossie “Pop” Anderson Sr. and his sister Mary “Coda” Walrond. Also extending embraces of love upon him, his father & mother-in-law Freddie & Lillie M. Daniels, sisters-in-law Catherine Daniels Palmer, Esther Anderson, and Donitta “Jeannie” Anderson, brothers-in-law, Tommy Daniels, Charles Davis and Fred Williams, all who preceded him in death.

As we bid farewell to Ray, we carry with us the memories of his kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication. In his memory, a public viewing will take place Saturday June 1, 2024, at 9:00 am at Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 1210 Himrod Avenue.

The Celebration of Life service will take place at 10am, officiated by Pastor J. Dwayne Heard. After the services Ray will be laid to rest at the Tod Homestead Cemetery. May Ray’s legacy live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, Ray, your spirit will forever be a guiding light in our lives.
