We celebrate a life that began on the third day of March, Nineteen Hundred Thirty-Eight. The late Mr. and Mrs. George and Maude Lewis were the proud parents of their third and youngest child, being born in Turner County, Ashburn, Georgia.

Whilomenia was educated in the Turner County School System and at Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia. Her career began as a first grade teacher in the Turner County School System and expanded four decades and more.

During her early childhood years, Whilomenia became a member of the body of Christ at New Providence Missionary Baptist Church, being deeply rooted in the Christian faith by preachers, teachers, leaders, and parents, whose lives were dedicated to leading others to Christ. Mrs. Bennett was a dedicated member who fervently aspired to willing share her wisdom, time, talents, and substances for the upbuilding of God’s kingdom when the seasons of her life permitted her to do so.

Whilomenia was united in Holy Matrimony to Jonathan Bennett on August 1, 1964. This loving union brought countless blessings, and among them was experiencing the joy of Motherhood by loving, caring, and nurturing her two precious daughters and her lovely and loving grandchildren. In her own way, she was a woman of great compassion, a loving companion to her husband, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

On May 20, 2024, God, in His own way and for his own purpose, summoned His Angel of Death to call the soul of Whilomenia to be with Him throughout eternity. Her parting thoughts….

Death beckoned me with outstretched hands,

And whispered softly of "An Unknown Land";

I shall not be afraid to go.

For though the path I do not know.

I take Death's Hand without a fear,

For He who safely brought me here,

Will also take me safely back.

And though in many things I lack,

He will not let me go alone into the "Valley That's Unknown"...

So I reach out and take Death's Hand

And journey to the "Promise Land".

Her parents, her husband, Jonathan Bennett, her sister Eunice and her brother, George Lewis, Jr., have preceded her on this journey.

She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her devoted family: daughters, Monique (Algenard) Bryant, Daedra (Gabriel) Jackson; her grandchildren, Jacovius McKinney, Jaylen and Camden Bryant, Gabrielle Jackson; nieces, Natalie Youngs, Beverly (Calvin) Lawrence; grand niece and nephew, Zoe Youngs and Zachery Youngs; sisters-in-law, Delores Lewis, Vivian Bennett; cousins, other relatives and friends.

I'm so sorry for your loss. She was a special lady to me. Our rooms were joined by bathrooms when we taught at Ashburn Elementary, so she was my buddy and mentor. I called her Willie and loved her dearly. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
