Senior Airman Roger N. Fortson, Senior Airman Roger N. Fortson, Senior Airman Roger N. Fortson. Let the record show that a US Airman has been called and has reported home. I spoke to Roger when he was a young man about joining the US Air Force. I am proud that he made that decision and lived up to what is expected of a wingman, a mentor, and a patriot. I am deeply saddened that his light has been extinguished, but just like light, his energy will never be lost. Mom, keep the faith that his reputation, as pure as the light that shone, cannot be stained. Roger was a well-mannered young man, and his life is a testament to the fact that there is a significant problem in America that cannot be resolved by the militarization of law enforcement departments. The focus should be on de-escalation training for law enforcement. My name is Mark Edge; I am a US Air Force Technical Sergeant, and I know what it feels like to be failed by those sworn to protect us. Roger, Rest In Peace; you have answered the call of the nation. I salute you, your mom and your siblings for fighting the good fight.

I can not even imagine the pain the family must be going through over such a senseless act. Our country still has a ways to go before we can say we are truly united. Airman Fortson defended his country from enemies abroad, never realizing he would be shot down while doing nothing more than spending time at his own home. This cuts to the core of my soul. Myself and so many others around the world stand with and grieve with the family.Sending thoughts, prayers and condolences to the family. Airman Fortson, thank you for your service.

Roger, I remember when you first got to the 73rd fresh out of the pipeline. I just got back from deployment and we had a flight together, the first thing that struck me about you was your overwhelming optimism and enthusiasm about the job it truly made me happy to be an aerial gunner. Not too much later we went to Dallas together on TDY and even though we got stuck there you had nothing but a positive vibe for the whole trip. A couple weeks ago you kept giving me a hard time saying I'd changed since I'd gotten promoted and I would reciprocate by making fun of you getting em twisted haha. Thank you Roger, you were truly a good man and the whole community will miss you forever. Until we meet again brother, till Valhalla.

As a retired USAF BLACK SNCO and a father of an Airman currently serving on Active Duty, that has lived and served in the very county that this tragedy took place...this was MY absolute biggest fear during my time as a !st Sgt ...getting this kind of call about one of my AIRMAN or about my son! I am saddened and angered by this course of events and unclarity from local officals. To Roger, babyboy I never met you, but we served together during my time on Active Duty. I have a 22 year old son currently on Active Duty and this thing is tearing him up daily, because none of this makes sense! To your mother and little sister, I can't say I know exactly what you are feeling and going through...but know that I empathize with you all 100%; know that the WORLD is praying for your comfort, safety and mental health during this trying time. God's Blessings to you all. I will be in attendance at his Homegoing services on this Friday. My heart is heavy and I hope justice is SWIFTLY dealt and this family can start to mend.
