John Arthur “Red” McNair was born to Arthur and Lucille McNair. He passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, surrounded by his family.
He was a long-time employee of Valley Produce where he worked until his retirement. Red was a kind and caring person who loved his family dearly. He loved to carry his boom box and play blues and gospel music for anyone who would listen. His grandchildren were the light of his life and brought him a great deal of joy.
He was preceded in death by parents Arthur and Lucille McNair, sisters; Gloria Washington and Thelma McNair; lifelong companion Betty Jean Bomar; son-in-law Clinton Burns Jr., and daughter-in-law Hattie Anita Bomar.
He leaves to mourn his passing daughters; Terry Burns and Agnes (Carl) Freeman; son, James L. Bomar Sr.; brothers; Alvin (Gloria) McNair, and Rev. Michael (Angela) McNair; sister, Dorothy Bailey; 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will all miss him dearly.
Public viewing will be Friday, May 3, 2024, from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm at Unity Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 12:00 -1:00 pm on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at First A.M.E. Zion Church with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 pm. Rev. Michael J. McNair, Officiating.
The final resting place will be at the Sherwood Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. A dove release will conclude in his honor.
