Kevin Earl Smith Sr. passed to eternal rest on April 20, 2024. He was born to the late William H Smith III and the late Hazel Smith on May 17, 1956, in the city of Chicago, Illinois. After dedicating three decades of his life to the service of Amtrak, Kevin retired, leaving behind a legacy of diligence and loyalty.
A proud alumnus of Englewood High School, Kevin was known for his sharp intellect and quick humor, which he carried throughout his life. Beyond his professional endeavors, Kevin had a profound love for cooking and was a steadfast pillar of support to his family and friends.
He is survived by his sons, his sons, Michael Pittman and Kevin Earl Smith Jr. loving daughters, Chevon Pittman and Geneva Smith Brazley (husband Patrick Brazley); and his cherished grandchildren, Kayla Halloway, Eardis Halloway III, Christopher Halloway, Brandon Thornton Jr., Mikylah Dickerson, Matthew Dickerson Jr., and Journey Brazley. Kevin's legacy also lives on through his great-granddaughter, Nariel Fuller. Mourning his loss are his siblings Brenda Smith-Johnson (husband Phillip Johnson), Belinda Smith, Phyllis Smith, Tangie Smith, William Smith Jr., Rickey Smith, and Stanley Smith, together with numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a host of family and friends. He is preceded in death by his brother Ronnie Smith (wife Jennie Smith).
The Smith family invites loved ones and friends to join in commemorating Kevin's life at WORD OF TRUTH COGIC, 415 W. 111th Street, Chicago, Illinois. Services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, with a wake starting at 10 AM, followed by the funeral service from 11 AM to 1 PM. AR Leak and Sons of Chicago, IL are overseeing the arrangements with compassion and reverence. Kevin's life was one of enduring grace, and it is with this spirit that we gather to lovingly remember him.
