JAMES MELTON JORDAN, JR. was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to the late Reverend James M. Jordan, Sr. and Nannie M. Jordan.

He received his formal education in the Harrisburg Public School District and graduated from John Harris High School in 1963 where he was in the school choir.

During his working career, James was a constructor worker, member of Laborers’ Local Union 1180. He worked various sites in Pennsylvania. For many years at Three Mile Island including the TMI accident in 1979. James continued to work while his wife, Linda, stayed home to take care of their children. After retirement, James was promoted to the Retiree Council as the Secretary Treasurer on October 4, 2007.

James was married for 50 years to the late Linda Darlene Barbour of Harrisburg. They married on Christmas Day in 1964. Their union was blessed with three children, James M. Jordan III, Sonya L. Jordan and Yvette M. Jordan. James also had a daughter, Veronica Jones, from a prior relationship.

James was God-fearing, strong willed, very kind and had a huge heart. He was a member of Crossover Ministries under Pastor Chuck Lamon. He was ordained Deacon on August 21, 2022.

James played softball with the company/union softball team. He loved football. Spending Sunday afternoons yelling at the TV. He was affectionately called “Junnie” by his wife and Mr. June by the neighborhood kids who all loved him dearly. He was known to have the kids climb into the back of his El Camino and take them to Dairy Queen or the playground. He was the ultimate family man. He took care of his family, making sure that every night the entire family had dinner together and he cooked breakfast on the weekends. According to his children, James was a fun, silly a big kid. HE loved spending time with family, especially during the holidays. He also loved to read and sing.

James Melton Jordan, Jr., at the age of 78 years, peacefully transitioned from this earthly life into eternal life on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pearly Jordan. He leaves to cherish precious memories of him, his children, Veronica Jones, of Florida, James M. Jordan III, Sonya L. Jordan and Yvette M. Jordan; his daughter-in-law, Nicole Jordan; five grandchildren, Anissa Jordan, Justin Jordan, Donnie Clark, Maurice Green and Nicholas Jordan; one great grandchild, Mileena Rose Green and a host of other family and friends.

James' life will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 in the Chapel of the Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton with viewing and visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon.
