The Life Story of Roderick Terrell Mason, Sr.
August 31, 1978 – April 3, 2024
“To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven. A time to be born,
and a time to die, a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time
to kill and a time to heal, a time to breakdown, and a time to build up; a time to weep
and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. Ecclesiates 3:1-4
Roderick Terrell Mason was born to the late Denita Jo Mason and the late Sherwin Brown, Sr. on August 31, 1978, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Roderick accepted Christ at the age of 8 years old and was baptized at Sunrise Baptist Church on June 29, 1986, by Rev. John C. Harrison.
Roderick grew up in Port Allen and Baton Rouge in the home of his grandmother Dolores Veals and in later years with his mom and the Lewis family Genevia and Dorothy along with Aubrey and Audrey.
Roderick graduated from Port Allen High School in May 1996 and attended Southern University for two years. He worked in the warehouse for Magnolia Distribution, Dairy Fresh Plant as an operator and a short period of time for the West Baton Rouge Parish as a utility meter reader.
On October 15, 2011, he married Ashlynn Ward and to that union one son was born, Ayden.
Roderick was a humble man and devoted man who cared for his mother until she passed. Roderick had a beautiful smile; his wife and two sons were his pride and joy along with his sister Elecia Mason. He loved sports, enjoyed watching Ayden play football and basketball and taking Ayden to games. He loved playing all kinds of video games at home with Ayden and above all enjoyed vacationing with his family.
Roderick was called home by our Lord on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, surrounded by his family and friends at 12:36 pm at Our Lady of Lake Regional Medical Center.
Roderick leaves to cherish his love and memories, his wife Ashlynn Ward Mason; two sons Roderick Mason, Jr. and Ayden Glynn Mason; two sisters Elecia D’Ann Mason and Shamyra Brown; two brothers Sherwin and Quincy Brown; Grandmother Dolores M. Veals; grandfather Rev. Dr. George C.
