Obituary For Barbara Ann Walton

Barbara Ann Walton was born one of many seeds out of the garden of the late Mr. Henry Roberts and Neather Roberts on August 10, 1946 in Fairfax, SC. She attended the public school of Allendale County.

Barbara's life did not start easy because she was born to tenant farmers. Her parents did not have much but they raised several children. Unfortunately, her father passed prior to her mother leaving her mother and eldest siblings to help support and care for the family.

Barbara along with her siblings had a hard life being raised during the Jim Crow era in the South. They were not valued or seen as being human but instead property although slavery was over. However, they did not give up hope.

Barbara along with her siblings migrated North for better opportunities. The road was rocky at times and even seemed hopeless but they preserved and moved forward because they had each other. Family was extremely important to them growing up and they always lived in close proximity to one another.

Barbara did well for herself to have a limited education. She often excelled at any job she was given in the manufacturing industry.

Many times she mentored young people at whatever job she was on trying to encourage them to get an education and stand up for their rights.

She lived a comfortable life that she enjoyed. She loved the Lord. She was no nonsense, strong and independent.

I believe she fulfilled her purpose through feeding people. She was passionate about cooking and enjoyed it. She was taught if someone was hungry, feed, if someone was thirsty, give something to drink.

She was resilient and beautiful but in the end, she was fighting a battle, unfortunately that she did not win.

In addition, to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by (4) Brothers: Cecil, Tommy, Frank and John; (4) Sisters: Sara, Mary, Emily, and Juanita; (1) Great-Granddaughter: Kiera; (1) Brother-in-law: John Simmons.

Her loving memory will be cherished by her daughter: Phyllis M. Brown; Fayetteville, NC; (2) Grandsons: Kenneth Brown Jr.; Grovetown, GA and Dorian R. Brown (Victoria), VA; (5) Great Grandchildren: Nashua; Atlanta, GA., Luano, Willingboro, NJ, Jaden and Kenneth III, both of Grovetown, GA and Keiana (GA); (4) Siblings: Adeline Simmons, Orangeburg, SC., Reather Holmes, East Orange, NJ, Luther Roberts, Sellers, SC and Shirley (Tom) Sherrod, Wilson, NC; Cousin: Deadre Gregory, East Orange, NJ,. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
