Obituary For Mrs. Edith Pauline Young Crump

Mrs. Edith Pauline Young Crump, born January 8, 1924, transitioned March 30, 2024. Mrs. Crump, along with her husband, and after his death, owned and operated several businesses, including Crump’s Tavern in historic Frenchtown until her retirement in 1995. She was also employed at the Crump family business, Crump Brothers Package Store for many years, and earlier in life, at W.T. Edwards Hospital.

She is survived by her daughters, Jessie Simmons Alexander (Shella), her sister she and her husband raised as their own, Marilyn Crump Dickey (Melvin), Rhonda Crump Hester (Charleston), and Thelma Crump and companion, Anthony Foster; grandchildren, Jarrett Alexander, Carlin Hester, Cheryl Hester, Roosevelt “Trey” Ealey, Melesa Dickey Witherspoon (Thomas), and Cherrese Hester; six great-grandchildren; five sisters, Betty Roberts, Earline Williams, Rubell Beard (David), Jessie Alexander (Shella), and Janie Glenn (Reverend Dr. Ronald); and two brothers, Joseph McCoy, and Reverend Oliver Simmons (Frances).

Two of her grandchildren preceded her in death, Edward (Little Ned) Fitzgerald Ealey, and Markeal Devonte Dickey.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2024, at Strong and Jones Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to New Mt. Zion AME Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2024, at New Mount Zion AME Church, 1401 Old Bainbridge Road, Tallahassee, FL, with burial at Oakland Cemetery.
