OAK ISLAND, GALE FAULK PFAFF, 75, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2024, after a courageous battle with leukemia. She was surrounded by her husband John, daughter Kelly and sister Robin as the song “You are my Sunshine” played.
Gale was born April 29, 1948, in Marion, SC to the late Loma Burley and Jennie Lee Faulk. She attended Marion High School. Following school, she became a flight attendant for Piedmont Airlines in Wilmington, NC where she earned her first set of wings. Gale spent time at AT&T, in banking and real estate before finding a career with Don Bullard Insurance, where she made lifelong friends. In her younger days, she taught yoga, took part in the local quilting guild and 4-H. She was an associate member of the Elks Lodge. Gale’s passions were dancing with her husband of 54 years, travel, and gardening. She loved anything involving water and could often be found sitting on the deck listening to the ocean.
Gale had an infectious smile and soft easy tone. She listened with empathy and spoke honestly, with a warm kindness all her own. A bright light, an anchor, and a cherished friend in the lives of so many, she was loved by all who knew her and will be fondly remembered. In addition to her parents, Gale was preceded in death by her daughter, Dina Lorraine Pfaff. She is survived by her husband John Pfaff of Oak Island and daughter Kelly Pfaff of Suwanee, GA, brothers Robert Faulk, Doug Faulk (Dianne), Ron Faulk (Chris), David Faulk (Xiaoling) and sister Robin Faulk Jackson (Ken), many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Gale was Moravian and had a strong faith. For those who knew her, they can picture Gale trying on her second set of wings as she arrived in heaven.
The family expresses their gratitude to the Duke Cancer Center and Hock Family Pavilion for their exceptional care. They also extend heartfelt thanks to neighbors, family, and friends for their unwavering love and support. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Gale Pfaff’s memory to the Duke Cancer Institute Fund (dukecancerinstitute.org/give-duke-cancer-institute), a cause that holds a special place in their hearts.
